snakeweed

The blooming of snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae) is an indication that summer is drawing to a close. On one hand it is sad to reach the end of a growing season, and on the other hand it will be a relief from summer's heat.

Sounds like you are describing Winnipeg or some place high in NORTHERN New Mexico...brrr!

ABQ is not there...we are *starting* our fall growing season, as evidenced recently. Summer is a period of dormancy here in ABQ, due to consistent high temps over 90F+ limiting photosynthesis in most species, not the end of the growing season.

Our effective growing season for most non-tender plants goes beyond the avg first frost of Nov 1, a way off...

Once we get consistent hard freezes <28F (usually T-giving - early Dec), then 90% of the US can start "California Dreamin":-)

That's not to seay that it is getting cold here by any means. It's just that I'm noticing that summer is drawing to a close, and although that means fall will be here, it also means that the cold weather will be on its way...in a few months. It's like starting Saturday morning dreading Monday coming around!
