Monotropa hypopitys

So Jon Stewart of the ABQ botanic gardens tells me that the mystery plant is Monoptropa hypopitys. It is indeed an "Indian Pipe" also known as the "Dutchman's Pipe" or "Pinesap." I'm not sure what the last one refers to. The pictures I have seen previously, show this plant as a ghostly white plant. It's probably like that in the varieties that grow in the deep dark forest. I think they look like some sea creature. Those here obviously have more pigment, more like a shrimp. A sea creature also, but from shallower depths. I've read several comments that the plant is highly variable, a rare and endangered species. I am honored to have seen it in person. Thanks Jon.
